Despite the 50-degree weather and rain on Thursday, November 9, Lee Ann and Alan White ‘s driveway was already decked out in holiday lights for The Salvation Army of North Texas‘ 2023 Doing The Most Good Luncheon patron party.
As Luncheon Co-Chairs Lisa Cooley and Lisa Singleton joined Lee Ann in welcoming guests, Alan reported that despite having lost 75 pounds in the past year, he may have gained a couple back recently. Leaning on his cane, Alan admitted that the recent death of longtime friend Barry Andrews had really been a great loss for many.
Before the evening’s program got underway, the entry hall was filled with Honorary Co-Chair Annette Simmons with Gage Prichard, Honorary Co-Chair Amy Simmons Crafton, Gene Jones, Sue and Joe Justice, Tracy and Ben Lange, Dan Branch, Brad Cheves, Clay Cooley, Marvin Singleton, soon-to-be-parents Bela and Chase Cooley, Ciara and Hunt Biggers and Tiffany Divis, Michael Faircloth and David Davis, who were showing their support before heading to the Trinity Park Conservancy Luminary Dinner at Salum.
The Lisas reported that the Salvation Army North Texas Command fundraiser at the Hilton Anatole was just a week away with award-winning sports broadcaster James Brown as the keynote speaker.
For Salvation Army North Texas Command Major Paul McFarland, having James speaking at the luncheon would be a reunion of sorts. Their relationship went back years, when James’ two brothers battled drugs addiction and were helped by Paul and his wife, Major Dawn McFarland.
Major Paul McFarland reported that “the Lisas” had not only met their goal but had set a record. That’s when Lisa C. interrupted Paul and admitted that the record was still held by Michal Powell, who chaired the event in 2017. Without missing a beat, Paul smiled, “Well, yours is a post-pandemic record breaker.”
Veteran fundraiser Michal is currently leading the The Salvation Army North Texas Command Capital Campaign with a record-breaking goal of $159.2M.
