As the more than 50 guests attended the 2019 Visionary Luncheon patron party on Wednesday, February 6, the late Caroline Rose Hunt’s and Herbert Hunt’s children were carrying on the family support of the Retina Foundation’s mission to “prevent vision loss and resotring sight through innovative research and treatment.”

Caroline’s son Patrick Sands and his wife Kristy Sands were co-chairing the Foundation’s fundraiser with Amy and Paul Wilson; her daughter Laurie was hosting the patron party at her Volk Estate home; and Herbert’s daughter Libby Allred and her husband Al Allred were across the way.

At one point, Foundation Managing and Medical Director Dr. Karl Csaky told Laurie and Libby how he had arrived at the Center ten years ago and Caroline and Herbert were two of the first to take him under their wings.

One night Karl get a phone call. It was Herbert asking him to join him and his wife, Nancy Hunt, at Pocket Dinner Theater. Libby and Laurie laughed because they knew of Herbert’s attending the venue near SMU.

Karl then told them that at a break in the program, Herbert asked him what he was doing. Karl responded that he was enjoying the entertainment. Herbert replied that Karl needed to get up and work the room.
