Kim Noltemy at 2024 Mad Hatter’s Lunch

It was at the recent Mad Hatter’s Lunch on Thursday, April 11, that Dallas Symphony Orchestra President/CEO Kim Noltemy was asked whether she was staying in Dallas. No, there had been no rumors about her heading elsewhere, but it seemed only logical. After all, having established a remarkable reputation for heading up the DSO since her arrival in 2018, it seemed natural that other organizations might try to tempt her away.

Without a blink of those blue eyes, she smiled and quickly replied, “Yes!” — indicating that she was indeed staying put right here in Dallas. She actually seemed a bit surprised that such a question even would be asked.

This morning Yesterday* at 5:31 p.m., then, The Dallas Morning News’ Scott Cantrell reported that The New York Times had published a story saying that Kim will be U-Hauling to the West Coast in June to head up the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

Regrets about that announcement are two-fold:

  1. The loss of a very talented and respected leader in the North Texas arts community.
  2. The denial that such a move was under way.

* The “official” announcement was to be made Friday but then was moved to Thursday and ended up being made yesterday by the LA Philharmonic.
