Geez! This past week has proven that North Texas non-profits are in overdrive making news. The good news is that the future is brimming with opportunities for support. The not-so-good new is MySweetCharity is just trying to keep up like a hobby horse at the Kentucky Derby.
The latest to confirm its plans is Dallas Theater Center‘s Centerstage 40: A Brand New Day. Teased at the preview party at NorthPark Ferragamo on Tuesday, January 30, it’s now all official.
Gala Chair Hamilton Sneed and DTC Executive Director Kevin Moriarty confirmed that the event will take place on Saturday, May 4, at Fashion Industry Gallery with award-winning Broadway veteran André De Shields on stage.
According to Hamilton, “Our featured Broadway performer is one of the hardest working men on Broadway. His roles span shows such as ‘Ain’t Misbehavin’,’ ‘Play On!,’ ‘The Full Monty’, and most recently as Hermes in the Broadway hit ‘Hadestown’ — a performance that won him his first Tony Award® for Best Featured Actor in a Musical at 73 years young, and a Grammy in the same year. We are thrilled to announce that this year’s Broadway entertainer will be a man that I first saw on a Dallas stage in August of 1992, the original (‘….so you wanted to meet the Wizard’) Wiz himself — the actor, singer, dancer, multi-talented, award-winning Broadway star, Mr. André De Shields. He’s going to dazzle and delight with a performance that you won’t want to miss!”
As reported previously, philanthropist Donna Wilhelm will receive the Linda and Bill Custard Award.
In addition to André’s presentation, the evening will include a raffle, a live auction, a cocktail reception, a seated dinner and Broadway classics performed by DTC’s Diane and Hal Brierley Resident Acting Company’s Christina Austin Lopez, accompanied by pianist Jesse Fry.
While the live auction goodies will be available for guests, the “raffle experiences” will be online starting next month for all to participate.
