According to After-School All-Stars North Texas advocates Marybeth and Kevin Conlon,
“After-School All-Stars (ASAS) is the largest national organization, with a strong local presence, that specifically focuses on serving middle school age students. As ASAS’ name recognition grows in North Texas, we are working diligently to demonstrate the need for the programming that After-School All-Stars provides and its impressive track record.
“Our wish is that more corporations and individuals will become advocates and donors to ASAS in 2024. We are currently finalizing leadership, location and event details for our annual luncheon next year. By committing to our cause now, you will enable us to further the establish the ASAS Luncheon as one of the most entertaining and meaningful fund-raising events next Spring.
“We have had the privilege to work with the ASAS team and to meet some of the most notable athletes in North Texas. The community’s response to the programming and the endorsement from such super star athletes, including Ezekiel Elliott, Dak Prescott and Dirk Nowitzki is invaluable. The message is clear-discipline and dedication are the cornerstones of making certain that every child can succeed.
“Many noted Dallas philanthropists and community leaders have demonstrated their commitment to ASAS in the past few years. We are especially grateful to Gina and Ken Betts, Robyn and Don Conlon, Lisa and Clay Cooley, Tracy and Ben Lange, the Crystal Charity Ball Committee and many others who have embraced our mission and our success.
“Studies show that 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. is the prime time when unsupervised students are most likely to become involved with gangs, crime, drugs and unsafe sex. Here in Dallas County, ASAS does not incur costs for daily transportation to and from our facilities or put students in a position where they have to travel to programs unaccompanied.
“Our students do not have to pay to be members of ASAS nor are they charged annually dues to fees to receive programming and services. Our programs only take place at Title I schools where more than 50 percent of students qualify for federal Free and Reduced Lunch program, a proxy for poverty.
“Every day, our program initiatives work to address the most prevalent and pressing issues facing our youth. ASAS inspires students to be healthy, graduate high school and go on to college, find a career they love and give back to their community. Please visit asasnorthtexas.org to find how you can become a part of the ASAS solution.”
