According to Visiting Nurse Association supporter Shandalynn Hagar,
“My husband, Kelby Hagar, and I are huge supporters of the Visiting Nurse Association (VNA), especially its Meals on Wheels program. When I was young, my mother delivered meals during lunch breaks from IBM in her work skirt and heels, regardless of the weather, and the impact has stayed with me since. I started delivering about seven years ago and have fallen in love with the people I deliver to, and the employees making it all happen. Being able to give back to our community is something we feel is of upmost importance, and this is my favorite way. Kelby has also become enthralled with the VNA and its objectives—enough that he has joined the Board to help support their initiatives from behind the scenes.
“We have the honor of serving as Chairs for VNA’s 14th Annual Celebrity Chef event. We’re thrilled that Pit Master and Franklin Barbecue Owner Aaron Franklin, will be here to help VNA celebrate 90 years of community care in North Texas. Aaron is generously donating his time and talent to make this the best event yet and has promised us an incredible menu with a few lessons on the art of smoking and barbecue along the way.
“There will be two seatings—lunch at 11:30 a.m. and dinner at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 4. This event will look, taste, and smell a bit different from previous years with Aaron’s smoker wafting delicious aromas in the back of the VNA Haggerty Meals on Wheels kitchen, guests dressed in BBQ Chic attire and enjoying signature menu items from Aaron’s cookbooks.
“Our Sweet Wish desire is to promote this wonderful organization doing so much for our aging community. Also, we want to provide others with a chance to give back while having a fabulous time. Table sponsorships are available for purchase now! Visit www.vnatexas.org/celebritychef to secure a table today and learn more.
“We’re grateful to The Moody Foundation, who will serve as our honorary chairs. Please know that 100% of the funds raised from Celebrity Chef go directly to VNA programs: Meals on Wheels, Supportive Palliative Care, and adult and pediatric Hospice Care.”
