There’s a favorite saying in these parts that someone “wasn’t born here, but they got here as fast as they could.”
Such is the case with Chris Ferrara, who was born and raised in Sharon, Massachusetts, but moseyed on down to Music City in 2013 with his “combination of city boy swagger and country boy soul.”
And that’s exactly what Chris and his seven-piece Common Good band will bring to the 66th Annual Junior Symphony Ball (JSB) on Saturday, January 27, at Gilley’s Dallas.
As 2024 Co-Chairs Adelaide Boisture (Parish Episcopal School), Ela Austin (Ursuline Academy), Cara Lichty (Episcopal School of Dallas), Caroline Woram (Highland Park High School), Baker Trent (Bishop Lynch High School), Ashton Krug (Jesuit College Prep of Dallas), Cash Nix (Highland Park High School), James Sutherland (St. Mark’s of Texas) and Kate Fagan (The Hockaday School) explained, “The band’s name is a direct reflection of Ferrara’s vision for his career: to make the world a better place for the common good. His movement, aptly named ‘IV – For The Common Good’ is being used to share happiness, inspire positivity, and shine a light on the good that goes around. Proceeds from all of his singles have been donated to various charities, and he continues to donate his time and talents to serve his community, both in Nashville and beyond.”
To get involved for the night of hoopin’-and-hollerin’ and dancing, 35 Dallas area schools’ sophomores, junior and seniors can sign up to be part of the JSB’s steering committee here.
While general admission tickets will become available “at a later date,” Steering committee tickets are available now starting at $395. Proceeds from the night will “support DSO outreach programs such as the Young Strings program and the Young Musicians program.”
The 2023 JBS provided $416,000 for the DSO Music Education and Outreach programs.
