According to the medieval French, “Rome wasn’t built in a day.” But right now the 2022 Crystal Charity Ball team is creating a memorable Italian showcase overnight at the Hilton Anatole Hotel. By Saturday evening the Chantilly Ballroom and surrounding lobby and terraces will be a blending of all the best of Italy for the Dallas County children’s fundraiser that’s celebrating its 70th anniversary.
When 2022 Chair Susan Farris’ 51% Italian genes inspired her to announce this past May that the ball’s theme would be “Splendido Italiano,” the simmering feel of Sorrento lemons, Mediterranean waters and fine virgin olive oil happily oozed throughout the committee of 100 with thoughts of “Roman Holiday,” Florence art, “Under the Tuscan Sun,” Rossini, Lake Cuomo, the Coliseum and Milano designers like Armani with nary a gladiator or Godfather in sight.
As the work in the ballroom was continuing into the night, the CCB ladies including vets Kristina Whitcomb, Ola Fojtasek, Cordelia Boone, Pam McCallum, Ann Dyer, Tiffany Divis, Mary Martha Pickens, Suzy Gekiere, Cheryl Joyner, Anne Besser, Lindsay Ballotta, Elizabeth Gambrell, Kristi Francis, Pam Busbee, Wendy Messmann, Candace Winslow, Kim Quinn, past CCB chairs (Debbie Oates, Vicki Chapman, Cynthia Mitchell, Connie O’Neill and Christie Carter) and the class of 2022 (Bonner Allen, Shannon Graham, Diana Hamilton, Sheilon King, Lisa Loy Laughlin and Victoria Snee) in sweaters and jeans briefly met upstairs to celebrate Susan’s being meravigliosa grande capo (aka “a wonderful big boss”) with a blanket bearing the Farris brand and other personalized touches.
Ciao until tomorrow.
