Another very tough decision has been days in the making. But it’s not all bad news and perfectly understandable. 2021 Celebrating Women Co-Chairs Marybeth Conlon and Elizabeth Gambrell along with their Underwriting Co-Chairs Amy Hegi and Libby Hegi based the call on the fact that “ during this past month, Baylor Scott And White Health has been closely monitoring the recent surge of the COVID-19 Delta variant in communities across Texas. Baylor University Medical Center has seen a 413% increase in cases over the last five weeks, and the number of hospitalizations continues to climb.”
Thus, out of consideration for the luncheon guests and the healthcare workers who have been on the front lines, the decision was made to cancel the event that provides funding for breast cancer research and development.
Originally scheduled for Wednesday, October 27, at the Hilton Anatole, Baylor Scott and White Dallas Foundation‘s mega-fundraising luncheon was to feature actress Patricia Arquette as the keynote speaker.
OK, now that the bad news is done, how about some good news? Marybeth, Elizabeth and the Hegi ladies have already signed up to assume their leadership roles for the 2022 event. Plus, Tom Thumb And Albertsons Companies Foundation is continuing their support as presenting sponsor for this year.
But all these developments do not mean that breast cancer research is canceled. It continues to save the lives of countless people like the ones who will share their stories online in October thanks to Baylor.
In the meantime, don’t dawdle around. Sign up for your mammogram and consider making a donation to support the work to cancel breast cancer for good.
