With the sudden arrival of heat and humidity, it helps to think about the holiday season with turkey, cranberry sauce and dressing on elegant china plates accompanied by wine in stemware. It’s such a lovely break from the everyday paper plates and plastic tableware. But then do you really want to pull out the same old tablecloths, napkins and place mats? And wouldn’t it be nice to dress up the table with a beautiful centerpiece?
Once again the Dallas Alumnae Association Kappa Kappa Gamma is coming to the rescue with its 2021 Tablescapes to provide food for that imagination of yours.
Thanks to 2021 Tablescapes Co-chairs Anne Mann, Cathy McEachern and Lacy Schultz, the two-day event will take place on Monday, October 11, and Tuesday, October 12, at the Dallas Country Club.
In addition to the Tablescapes by Candlelight on Monday evening with its cocktail sneak peak of the table designs, Tuesday will feature the return of author Alex Hitz, who will be interviewed by Kappa alumna Chesie Hortenstine Breen plus a seated luncheon afterward at the glamorama tables.
Described by The Wall Street Journal as “the very best host in the world,” Alex has published a new book (“The Art of the Host: Recipes and Rules for Flawless Entertaining”), as well as adding stories and ideas to his repertoire since his last appearance at Tablescapes in 2014.
According to Alex, “I’m delighted to be returning to Dallas to celebrate such an inspiring and incredibly beautiful event. I look forward to discussing the art of hosting exceptional gatherings, and sharing some fun tips and unique experiences.”
An Atlanta native, his past tales have included a summer blackberry torte in Carolyne Roehm’s garden, Lobster Mimi at Carolina Herrera’s 91st Street house, “a surreal sour cream soufflé” at Bill Blass’ country house, short ribs with Betsy Bloomingdale and Thanksgiving with Elizabeth Taylor.
In addition to Alex and the rooms of exquisite table settings by area designers, the Kappas will be honoring philanthropist/fundraiser/elegant hostess Peggy Sewell as the 2021 Platinum Key honoree and Becky McCamey as the 2021 honorary chair.
After providing $3.5M to more than 110 beneficiaries since 1995, this year’s fundraiser will benefit the following non-profits: Angel Flight South Central, Aspire, Attitudes and Attire – Boots to Heels Program, Brother Bill’s Helping Hand, Camp John Marc, Jonathan’s Place, Juliette Fowler Communities, St. Phillip’s School and Community Center, The Salvation Army, The Warren Center and the Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation.
As Lacy put it, “The 10 beneficiaries selected for 2021 provide vital services for members of our community. Our collective support is especially needed as we work to recover from the impact of COVID-19.”
