Saturday night the skies over the Cotton Bowl are going to be dazzling thanks to 1,000 Intel drones for Walmart’s Holiday Drone Light Show. Only eight communities in the country were selected for the free sky-tacular presentation and Dallas won the luck of the draw not once but twice.
According to Walmart Chief Marketing Officer William White, “After a particularly tough year, we want to help families end the year looking up. We want customers and communities to enjoy a moment of rest, peace and hope. From our summer movie drive-in to our fall gameday and Halloween experiences, we’ve been finding ways to help families enjoy seasonal traditions in a year when they thought it might not be possible.”
The lucky folks who snapped up the tickets will park at Fair Park, turn on their FM radios and listen to Bing Crosby singing “Frosty the Snowman,” Kelly Clarkson doing “Run Run Rudolph” and others as the little drones create three-dimensional shapes and characters.
The reason for the two-timer is that the tickets for the first show were gobbled up so fast that Walmart added a second one. Alas, that one is a done deal, too.
But there’s good news for any smart cookie who lives nearby or knows the perfect spot to park-and-watch the show that starts at 7 p.m. It lasts about an hour.
And if you can’t make it, the show will be live streamed at 7:40 p.m. on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok.
BTW, if you live around the Fair Park area and have pets, you might want to keep them indoors. They might not take a liking to seeing ginormous reindeer prancing overhead.
