Since the Sunday, October 27th tornadoes swept through North Texas leaving a trail of destruction, homeowners, shop owners and, yes, nonprofits are pulling themselves together to move forward. Tonight, with a full moon overhead, two nonprofits originally scheduled to kick off their fundraising efforts the days after the onslaught held their events.
First on the schedule was the 2020 Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary’s Fashion Show and Lunch announcement party at Stanley Korshak starting at 5:30 p.m.
Before Women’s Auxiliary President Margaret Hancock introduced Fashion Show and Luncheon Chair Kim Hext, she revealed that when the previous event was cancelled, Korshak’s Crawford Brock and his team donated the event’s food to one of the fire stations in North Dallas.
Then Kim, who had 24 hours earlier flown in from China, announced that the fundraising shop-athon would be returning to the Meyerson on Monday, May 11. Serving as honorary chair would be Ellen McStay. As for the Margot Perot Service Award, it will go to longtime Salvation Army supporter and community non-stopping fundraiser Carol Seay — “She not only serves on the board, but she’s directing traffic and handing out water bottles when there is a disaster” — joined by her daughter-in-law Stephanie Seay.
Then guests like 2019 Fashion Show and Luncheon Chair/President-elect Lisa Singleton, Salvation Army DFW Command’s Barbara and Jonathan Rich and Di Johnston were reminded that before the luncheon, there was still the Red Kettle fundraiser and the need for closet cleanings to provide clothes for the Chic Boutique in May.
