Despite The Death Of Robert Mayer Jr., WaterTower Theatre “Will Go Forward” With Its Original Plans To Honor His Inspiration At Its Spring Gala

Apr 4, 2018 3:30 PM by Jeanne Prejean

Robert Mayer Jr.*

It was just last week that it was announced that the WaterTower Theatre Gala was shining a light on a couple of area leaders and playwrights. The plan called for Vicki Cheatwood and Steven Young to create ten-minute plays inspire by Bob Mayer Jr. and Kent Rathbun, respectively, to be part of the fundraiser on Thursday, March 29.

However, just a day after the plans were announced, Bob passed away.

Following today’s services for the late executive and philanthropist at Temple Emanu-El, WaterTower Theatre Managing Director Nick Even reported, “Bob Mayer was a long-time Addison resident, a stalwart supporter and Board member for many years at WaterTower Theatre and a kind and generous person to all. His presence will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by both the Staff and the Board. It is the shared wish of Bob’s daughter Mary Anne Mayer Redmond, our Gala chairs, the WTT Staff and Board that we continue to pay tribute to Bob for his life of service at our May 11 Spring Gala. The previously announced scene honoring Bob written by Vicki Cheatwood will go forward, along with our second announced scene by Steven Young celebrating Kent Rathbun.”
