In the past couple of years WaterTower Theatre has been stretching its creative muscles. There was new Artistic Director Joanie Schultz’s production of “Hit The Wall” that made headlines. Now it seems that under the leadership of Managing Director Nick Even, the company is literally staging a new production for its 2018 Spring Gala.
As part of the undertaking, longtime theatre loving Tara Lewis is chairing the gala on Friday, May 11, at Vouv along with WTT Board Member Craig Sutton as underwriting chair and longtime WTT supporter Barbara Daseke as honorary chair.
Regarding the changes, this year’s seated dinner will feature two original ten-minute plays “celebrating two area philanthropists for their many and varied contributions to the community.” The 2018 honorees will be business executive Robert “Bob” Mayer Jr. and Chef Kent Rathbun.
According to Joanie, “We wanted to pay tribute to these two impactful members of our community in the most special way we can offer, by honoring them with a short live theatre experience that reflects an aspect of their incredible lives. We invite all friends and fans of Bob Mayer and Kent Rathbun to come celebrate with us and experience these original theatrical tributes on May 11.”
The local playwrights in charge of the mini-plays “inspired by these two honorees” will be Vicki Cheatwood for Robert and Steve Young for Kent.
In addition to the two productions, Tara reports that the evening will also include “a cocktail reception, dinner, live music, silent and live auctions, a cork pull and raffle.”
