It’s January and still the West Nile virus is taking its toll. The latest victim was former Dallas Summer Musicals Chairman of the Board Paul Corley, who died Wednesday, January 15, from complications resulting from the virus.
Many within the arts community know how over the decades Paul chaired the Dallas Theater Center and Theatre Three boards. But his community involvement extended beyond the arts. He also chaired the Dallas County Chapter of the American Red Cross and Goodwill Industries, as well as serving as vice president and director of the Salesmanship Club of Dallas.
What many may not realize is how Paul arrived in Dallas back in 1937. Toddie Lee Wynne Sr. hired Paul following the youngster’s graduation from Stamford High School to pitch for Wynne’s American Liberty Oil Company. And why not? Paul had taken his high school softball team to two state championships. Thus began a “life-long relationship with the Wynne family.”
But that’s only the tip of Paul’s amazing life. If you get a chance, read about his service in the U.S. Navy, his earning his undergraduate degree from SMU and his 65-year marriage to Ann.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, January 21, in the Sanctuary of Highland Park United Methodist Church at 2:30 p.m.
Our condolences to the entire Corley family and their many friends.
