One of the most unpredictable and fun events in Dallas summers is approaching this weekend and is oh-so-close to a sellout that you’d better hustle.
Top Hats and Tails once again returns to the Frontiers of Flight Museum Saturday where a lot of local celebs will try their hands. . . uh, feet at dancing for the benefit of Paws in the City.
With a 60’s theme, “All They Need is Love,” Event Chairs Becky Haisma and Tina Fairbanks have arranged for a great crop of dancers and hope-to-be’s — Rodney Anderson, Linda Armstrong-Kelly, Ron Corning, Lynae Fearing, Monica Greene, Melissa Newton, Steve Noviello and Shelly Slater.
Haven’t checked with Las Vegas bookies, but understand that Shelly has loved dancing all her life. But watch out for Noviello. His mom was a Rockette, so he may have dancing in the blood.
And if you think the talent just shows up and stumbles through a polka or one-two-three-box-step, file that in the “rethink file.” The celeb dancers have been taking lessons with their Arthur Murray partners for weeks because this year’s judges are gonna be tough — Drew Pearson, Claudia “Arthur Murray Maven” Marshall and Sassy Steve Kemble.
And as for dance wear, the ladies’ outfits are amazing. They come straight from the “Dancing With The Stars” collection that just concluded. If you watch DWTS, you just know there aren’t going to be any hoop skirts or muumuus.
But it’s not all silliness, Wendy Krispin dining, silent auction and two-stepping. This year the event is honoring Tina Fairbanks, Dr. Wendy Dearixon and Dr. John Vandermeer for the countless ways they have helped animals in the community.
Hate to end this on a sad note, but the evening will be bittersweet for many because longtime “best friends” — Joe Avezzano, Al Huchet and Janie Tilford — crossed the rainbow bridge this past year. While their laughter and smiles will be missing, their love of two- and four-legged animals will continue to inspire.
