After the recent weeks of rainfall, it’s hard to believe but water restrictions have officially started for the City of Dallas and other area communities. But anyone who has blistered through a North Texas summer will tell you that this start of the conservation is just to get you used to what will be an absolute must come July and August.
First of all, watering is prohibited between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. from Monday, April 1, to Thursday, October 31.
Watering will be allowed twice a week from 6 p.m. to 10 a.m. with the following schedule:
- Addresses with last digits ending in 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8 may water on Sundays and Thursdays
- Addresses with last digits ending in 1, 3, 5, 7 or 9 may water on Saturdays and Wednesdays
- Addresses with no number may water on Sundays and Thursdays
Confused? No surprise. So, how about an example? Let’s say the restrictions applied to The White House. Its address is 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Because the last digit is “0” (zero), The White House may water the grounds on Sundays and Thursdays.
These restrictions apply to the use of hose-end sprinklers and automatic irrigation systems. Soaker hoses and hand watering are permitted on any day.
If you want some tips on how much you should water your yard, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension has created Water My Yard to provide weekly watering advice using local weather data.
