As Leap Day ended February with grovel (aka “gritty rain”) and just enough chill to keep cashmere layers, it might not have been the best time to leave home. But North Texas fundraisers were not to stay put. While the “Art of Caring” held its dinner at “a local country club” with Diane and Daryl “Moose” Johnson in the spotlight, others headed to the late Lee Trevino estate in Preston Hollow, where the Healing Hands Luncheon patron party was underway. But the site was far different from the days of Trevino. Here’s a report from the field:
And the rains came…Naysayers thought the HHM Health Healing Hands Luncheon Patron party might be like the old Maytag appliance ads where the repairman was the loneliest man in town because the well-built appliances never needed service.
But the dark clouds and brief torrents of rain, mixed with a bit of hail at the bewitching hour did not keep the Healing Hands Luncheon top donors from descending upon the incredible 5-acre estate owned by Lacy and Clayton Sands.
The property, once the site of famed PGC legend Lee Trevino’s home, is hidden from Park Lane by a winding road that overlooks a babbling creek with greens and golf-course remnants from the previous owner’s heyday on the links.
The new digs feature a stunning Westward-facing terrace that runs the full length of the large, but understated contemporary home with sweeping views of an infinity pool and acres of manicured lawn. Once inside, the long central hallways opened to several lacquered rooms filled with gorgeous art and family mementos. Speaking of family, the Sands’ three young children enjoy the central hallway, especially on rainy days. Lacy apologized for the “invisible” marks on the manicured flows from the little ones’ indoor scooters courtesy of Santa last December. (No one could see the marks except Lacy).
A·T Bistro/Au Troisiéme provided the evening’s fare as guests gathered in the family game room, complete with pool table, pub-like atmosphere and tons of family photos to thank Northern Trust for sponsoring the party and to recognize top donors, including Debbie Scripps, and her husband, Ric Scripps (posthumously) who are luncheon honorary co-chairs.
Luncheon Co-Chairs Christy Berry and Nancy Scripps were all smiles that the lunch on Tuesday, March 19, at Dallas Arts District Mansion was so sold out.
Among the patrons enjoying the indoor and outdoor views were the host’s sister, Julia Sands and Stan Cunningham (she co-chaired the luncheon last year with Shannon Graham who was also there), Robby Berry, Ryan Scripps, HHM Health CEO Brian Hawkins and his wife Vercilla Hawkins, 2024 Crystal Charity Ball Chair Cheryl Joyner and her daughter Courtney Joyner Gage, Rosewood Foundation executive Lynn Fisher, inaugural luncheon Honorary Chair Pam Busbee, Susan Jenenvein, Julie and Kregg Jodie, Northern Trusts executives Sei Unger and Julia Davis and Northern Trust Wealth Strategies Managing Director Keith Braley, who addressed the guests.
