While other parts of the country are being drenched or bracing for chilly temperatures, North Texans are wearing shorts, taking leisurely walks around their neighborhoods and hoping that the weather conditions stay put.
Well, evidently Mother Nature seems to be giving the area a break after a couple of icy slams in past years. According to predictors, there are no bone-chilling times ahead. In fact, the daytime temperatures in March will be in the upper 60s and lower 70s.
And those are absolutely ideal conditions for the Dallas Arboretum’s Dallas Blooms to bust loose with an array of beauties — 500,000 daffodils, hyacinths, tulips, cherry blossoms and azaleas.
Presented by AmegyBank, the “largest annual floral festival in the Southwest” has the theme “A Picture’s Worth A Thousand Words.” Needless to say, there isn’t a bad place in the 66 acres for a selfie.
Kicking off tomorrow and continuing to Monday, April 8, the grounds will not only be spectacular, there’ll be the added effects of birds singing and the fragrances arising from the flowers beds.
If you have a fav flower that you want to visit, you’re in luck. The Blooms Tracker provides an update on the flowers’ status. For instance, “Daffodils are now in bloom! Hyacinths and early spring tulips are beginning to emerge and bloom, with full bloom expected in the coming weeks.”
And there will be activities galore from the Food and Wine Festival on Thursday, March 21, Cool Thursdays Concerts Series, Mommy and Me Mondays and Tiny Tot Tuesdays and, of course, cooking demonstrations and tastings at A Tasteful Place.
Still another event starting up tomorrow will be the reopening of the Rory Meyers Children’s Adventure Garden after its winter hiatus. They’ll even have special activities focused on the upcoming solar eclipse for the youngsters.
BTW, for those hankering to view the solar eclipse on Monday, April 8, at the Arboretum, order your tickets pronto. Individual tickets are already sold out, but group tickets are still available.
