Was it 25 years ago that the North Texas Food Bank used to have its yummy Empty Bowls event in downtown Dallas, with a flood of office workers heading at noontime to sample soup and check out the pottery and bowls by area artisans at the Meyerson?
With NTFB’s Perot Family Campus in Plano becoming the focal point of efforts and opportunities, Empty Bowls planted its anchor there. Along with the change of location came a change in the timing. It became more of an early-evening affair.
Still, the offering of hand-curated pieces of pottery and bowls of food continue to be the event’s mainstay.
Presented by Kroger, this year’s Empty Bowls will “leap” forward on Thursday, February 29, with the VIP starting at 5 p.m. and the rest joining in from 5 to 9 p.m.
Celebrity Chef Dan Landsburg is being joined by the following participating restaurants: Mozzarella Company, Empire Bakery, The Texas Barn at Circle T Ranch, Taverna Russo, Union Bear, Lockhart Smoke House, Asian Mint, Norma’s Cafe, Rex Stix and Celebration.
While the VIP tickets are already sold out, general admission tickets are going for $100 and can be gobbled up here.
Warning: This event is for guests 21 and older. So, book that babysitter ASAP.
Since it started in 1999, funds raised by Empty Bowls have provided 7.2M meals to North Texans in need.
