This post may seem a bit premature, but Monday is Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday. But along with the national holiday’s closing post offices and an array of government offices and delaying the IRS’ quarterly payment, it’s also going to be a challenge for the holiday’s MLK Parade.

Evidently Mother Nature doesn’t give a flip about the holiday and is aiming to drop temperatures starting Sunday. With a high in the upper 20s and the low in the single digit, some forecasters are actually hinting of a wake-up call for “snow showers” Monday morning and the rest of the week being a roller coaster of temperatures with the lows hitting the 20s overnight.
In addition to reviewing their Cold Weather 4 P’s List (i.e. pets, people, pipes and plants), North Texans might also be wise to stock up early and prepare comfort foods (i.e., soups, casseroles, hot drinks, etc.), blankets, automobile winterizing and sealing air leaks around windows and doors before the chill hits.
But there’s a bright future ahead. According to long-term predictions, there appears to be no way-down, deep freezes for the rest of the month. Some are even going so far as to claim that it will continue until spring.
Don’t you know North Texas is due to a not-so-frigid winter after deep freezes of the past?
