As this weekend’s BMW Dallas Marathon Festival gets underway Saturday with walkers and runners throughout Dallas for the Scottish Rite for Children fundraiser, a group of volunteers will be “filling holes” at Turtle Creek Park.
From 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., 75 to 100 trees will take root at the Park as part of Branch Out Dallas and the City of Dallas Park and Recreation Department program.
Serial tree planting will be on the West and East parcel for specific locations to ensure the continued health of the Park ecosystem and the beauty of the canopy of trees for future generations. The majority of trees will be planted in the South parcel to create the foundation for the future plans for activating the space to create 1-2 miles of a nature trail to give opportunity for park guests to be immersed in nature.
While 100+ volunteers have already signed up, there is still a need for more to “plants trees that will provide long-term enhancement and beautification to the beloved park in the heart of Dallas.”
According to Turtle Creek Park Conservancy President Tiffany Divis, “The weather forecasters are predicting a beautiful morning for this project, so we are hopeful it will be appealing to anyone wanting to keep Turtle Creek Park a beautiful gem in the heart of the city. This is truly an example of how public-private partnerships can improve the quality of life for everyone in the city with a minimal financial commitment.”
The planting is family friendly and free to join. To come on board for this growing experience, you can register to volunteer here or call 214.521.2003.
BTW, if you want to help support the cost of the irrigation to maintain and support the planting of trees throughout Turtle Creek Park, you can donate here.
