According to Family Compass Communications Manager Kyla Lynch,
“Family Compass is the largest agency in North Texas solely dedicated to the prevention of child abuse and neglect. Our vision is a world where all children are safe in their homes and communities. Over 57,000 children and parents have benefitted from Family Compass’ free and voluntary services, offered in both English and Spanish.
“These families have the same dreams that we all do, to lead healthy, successful lives and to build a legacy for their children. Yet, they continue to face adversity, struggling in the face of a shaky economy and lack of accessible, affordable resources. When families feel no one else is, Family Compass is there to walk alongside them.
“We know why child abuse and neglect happen, the root causes being: low level of parenting skills, high stress, and poor living conditions in the home and environment. To address these causes, we reach families through two types of programming: Home Mentoring in addition to Community Education and Outreach. With a holistic approach, our staff listen with intention and provide steady guidance, ultimately empowering parents and instilling hope within families for future generations. Wrap-around support also includes free resources such as our counseling program, car seats, teen support, professional training, plus supplemental home essentials such as diapers and school supplies.
“The CDC estimates that it costs society an astonishing $831,000 per child abuse case to address over the lifetime of a child that experiences it. As such, Family Compass saved the community $514 million just last year by keeping 618 children out of the overburdened CPS system, in evidence-based programming alone, and most importantly preventing the trauma of child abuse.
“The generous support of our donors and community partners allows us to provide these critical prevention services, proactively addressing the causes of child abuse before it can occur. Will you partner with us to meet ever-growing demand? Your support on Communities Foundation of Texas’ North Texas Giving Day will go so much farther at Family Compass. A group of dedicated supporters have committed to a challenge gift of $15,000, unlocked once we hit $45,000 raised on North Texas Giving Day with your generosity! Together we can stop the cycle of child abuse and neglect, saving and changing generations. Join us.”
