Perhaps next week should just be canceled. While that shocking idea sinks in, just think how Independence Day falling on a Tuesday creates all types of scheduling challenges and/or opportunities.

Over the past months event organizers have been scratching their heads about the timing to celebrate the red-white-and-blue.
All types of decisions were made. Klyde Warren Park’s Independence Day Celebration (Saturday, July 1), Addison’s Kaboom Town! (Monday, July 3) and Dallas Arboretum have decided to celebrate the days leading up to the 4th. Others like Fort Worth’s Panther Island Pavilion and Fair Park just followed tradition to party on the 4th.
And even then there were challenges, like the Park Cities July 4 Parade’s having to be reconfigured due to road construction. But it will still roll on Preston Road between a couple of “private clubs.”
Now, let’s address those who schedule their PTOs and vacay days around holidays. There are three game plans:
- Five days off — For those playing with just two days off, their game plan is to take Friday, June 30, and the following Monday (aka July 3) resulting with five days off (Friday thru Tuesday).
- Nine days off —Others with four days to cash in, can take the Monday, July 3, and the remaining post 4th days (Wednesday, July 5, Thursday, July 6 and Friday, July 7) off, scoring across the calendar board of Saturday, July 1, thru Sunday, July 9 off.
- Ten days off — For those who have squirreled away their days off, they have hit the trifecta trumping all with a combo of Plan 1 and Plan 2 resulting in “out of the office” from Friday, June 30, through Sunday, July 9.
On the other hand, there are still the working stiffs at restaurants and stores who will be working through all those days and would appreciate a generous tip and a bit of patience.
And, of course, MySweetCharity will continue to try to catch up on past events and posting current news.
