Sorry to start the week off with a cold shoulder, but the The Weather Channel experts are reeling with all types of icy threats.
With tonight’s temperatures diving to the 30s, the days ahead are looking a bit down-and-under until late Wednesday.
But don’t let the daylight sunshine fool you. The overnight below 32° temperatures will ice over sidewalks and streets where only a Zamboni would feel at home.
You probably already know the drill to get your duvets, cashmere sweaters and recipes for hot chocolate and vegetable soups out. Let’s hope you hit the grocery store shelves before they’re empty.
But if you’re new to these parts, embed the four P’s in your gray matter: Pets, pipes, plants and people. Each of these need priority attention. While you don’t have to wrap your pets and people, you do need to cover the pipes and plants. As for the pets and people, you need to make sure that they’re in secure surroundings with nourishment.
In addition to the four P’s, add SS (aka sprinkler systems). Turn them off unless you want to create a neighborhood ice rink and possibly damage your underground systems.
Speaking of ice skating rinks, don’t venture out unless you honestly need to. As for folks with munchkins, check your local school districts on whether they’re shouting “calf rope” or having class as usual.
Hopefully, you’ve already stockpiled your battery collection. You just never know when that neighbor who lives blocks away didn’t trim his/her trees. And, now their worn-out limbs have cratered on a power line leaving all the neighborhood out-of-commission.
As usual, this brisk situation with Mother Nature’s deep freeze will come and go quickly. Unfortunately, its hit can be deadly and costly.
Is there good news? Yup! Starting Thursday the temperatures will return to a balmy 60-ish degrees.
