As the North Texas trees dress down from dazzling golds, oranges and yellows to naked limbs, that crisp air in the area is going to become bone-chilling cold this next week. Starting Wednesday the drop in temperatures will continue through Hanukkah on Monday, December 26. And to add to the holiday chill, temperatures are predicted to hardly reach above the 30s from Thursday to Christmas Day with no snow expected.
Before the last 2022 freezer gets underway, cut some time out of your weekend shopping to prepare.
How?
Here’s a checklist for your consideration:
- Take care of the P’s (people, pets, plants and plumbing).
- Dig up those comfort recipes (i.e., soups, breads, pastas, hot chocolate, etc.) and head to the grocery before the shelves are bare.
- Pull out your sweaters, socks, boots, gloves and warm duds.
- For a snug night’s sleep, how about electric blankets and/or duvets? And while silky nightgowns might be tantalizing, flannel jammies might be better suited for the nights ahead.
- Stock up on firewood for your fireplace and chimineas.
- Check your supply of batteries. Remember how you swore you would never be left hanging last February when the old ones were drained?
- Turn off your sprinkler systems. You don’t want to be the homeowner in your hood that caused a slip-and-slide sidewalk and/or street.
- Fill your vehicles with fuel (i.e., gas or electricity) and check the anti-freeze.
- Make sure that your insurance is up to date just in case an “oops” happens.
- And put out some cookies for Santa on Christmas Eve.
