For those who are returning from spring breaks in Mexico, the mountains or just hanging out, welcome back to North Texas’ rumble-tumble weather. Over the weekend the skies had been the perfect user-friendly color of blue, and the walk-abouts had pooches escorting their human companions around the neighborhoods.
But, alas. According to the folks who scour weather maps, Monday is gonna be a game changer. There’s a 100% chance of rain which is a blessing for those battling massive fires that have wiped out towns over the past days. On the other hand, the rain is bringing along thunder, lightning and strong winds, possibly giving birth to hail and tornadic conditions.
If you have munchkins and/or adults in the household who still have memories of Mother Nature’s October 2019 slash-and-dash that decimated parts of the area, why not take a deep breath and prepare them for what may come?
Make a checklist of what to do if things get “rough.” Do you have the following items in a get-to location?
- Batteries
- Battery-operated lamps, candles, lanterns, etc.
- Backup for computers
- A game plan and a safe spot to gather
- Cellphones, tablets, etc. charged up
- A battery-operated radio
- Medication for pets
Most importantly, don’t make it a big deal. Just tell them that it’s spring and with it comes gusty weather.
On the other hand, you just know that the weathercasters aren’t always that reliable. Still, it wouldn’t hurt to just touch base with those precautions.
