Anne Stodghill admitted that she and husband Steve Stodghill had been so busy with activities like his 60½ birthday party that had folks from around the country at Gilley’s on Saturday, May 22, that they showed up at Holly and Stubbs Davis’ home on Sunday, May 29, with hot dogs and buns for their annual Memorial Day get-together. Only problem was, they were a day early. No problem, said Stubbs, who greeted them at the door and had them come in for dinner.
Luckily, they hadn’t gotten their dates mixed up to host the 2021 Cattle Baron’s Ball Trailblazer Party on Wednesday, June 2, to celebrate the CBB underwriters already on board.
Looking at the beautiful grounds with big white Sewell balloons floating over the head of the steer statuary and guests Christie Decker with Jeff Matthews, Susan and John Farris with daughter Lora Farris, Melissa Sherrill, Lisa Singleton, Daniella Giglio, Kelly Perkins, Isabella Higginbotham, Mary and Robert Black, Angela Seaman, Carolyn Bender and former CBB chairs Vicki Chapman, Mary Martha Pickens (2015), Sunie Solomon (2017), Wendy Messmann (2019), Cara French (2016), Katy Bock (2018), KJ Sanger (2012) and CBB Co-Founder Jacque Wynne, 2021 CBB Co-Chair Heather Randall recalled how Anne, who had co-chaired the 2017 CBB, had volunteered early on to hold this event. Little did they know then that due to February’s ice storm and recent rain dragging, the yard would require some major refreshing. Pointing to her knee, Anne laughed that anything that high was brand new, except for the trees.
Steve gingerly walked through the grounds due to a sore back. Pointing to the cabana with two lion statues (“Hardwork” and “Perseverance”), he laughed that that was where he had spent much of the pandemic. He was also proof that not everyone suffered from the COVID-19 weight gain. After losing 130 pounds since November, he had been having tailors around the world reconstruct his wardrobe. As he said, it’s cheaper to have his duds tailored down than buy new ones.
In the early days of his weight loss program, he was losing an average of three pounds a day. When 2021 CBB Co-Chair Diana Hamilton asked if he had lost any weight in his feet, the answer was no.
Still another who lost weight during the pandemic was Gail Fischer, who has so many irons in the business fires that there’s just not enough time to eat.
In the crowd partying on this night around the pool was Trailblazer Co-Chair Elizabeth Tripplehorn playing with the idea of going active in 2021 because Co-Chair Nancy Gopez was one of her favorite people… Trailblazer Co-Chair Vodi Cook was a little more than a week out from her wedding at Horseshoe Bay to Evan Meagher… Trailblazer Co-Chair Lauren and Francoise Bellemare were still celebrating their second anniversary (the actual date was June 1)… 2019 CBB Co-Chair Lisa Shirley was revealing the secret to her scoring second place in CCB’s Children’s Book at the Midpoint Luncheon. Since pets have been added to the book, she simply sent notes to all her friends who had pets and was amazed how many quickly signed up… Andrea Nayfa and Kristina Wrenn were selling CBB raffle tickets to raise funds for cancer research and development in North Texas.
