According to Tomorrow’s Leaders Today and What Makes Us Different Founder Elaine Smith-Poyourow,
In an ever-changing world, TLT- Tomorrow’s Leaders Today, Inc. (TLT) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit youth leadership program that is putting the focus on civic responsibility, real-life soft skills and careers.
Throughout Collin County and Denton County Texas, the TLT Leaders eight-week program will work with each 8th grade-Junior College participant to integrate their career path goals, while developing leadership qualities and real-life soft skills such as balancing a checkbook, introduction to leases and contracts and career resources to name a few. Each participant will come up with a community service project idea, create a budget, plan of action, and presentation that is shared with the class. The class votes on the presentations and project options and vote on one the class will complete before the end of the program. A core component during the program is civic leadership and how they can be involved at any age.
Engagement with local business, civic and community leaders, from the community the participant lives in, are aligned with the participant’s career choice, which leads to more meaningful connections. The selection of the class facilitator and mentors for every class fosters these relationships. Retreats and internships for those 11th grade and above round out the program experience. Guest speakers enhance the real-life soft skills by bringing current day examples to the program. The participant learns how to be more resourceful and independent and what it takes to be a leader in any career they choose. The program ends with a graduation.
TLT would be honored to have Adults 55+ and Veterans who would like opportunity to join us and put their mentoring and leadership skills to much needed and valuable use, allowing them to become better engaged with the community. Business partners with internship or apprentice opportunities are encouraged to help us identify openings where the participants can learn further.
Covid19 may have curbed our activity but it has not stopped us. We have been able to continue serving those in foster care, low income, impoverished and homeless situations. TLT has gone even further and created a TLT Learning Center were individuals can participate in virtual free presentations, surveys and online courses where certificates can be earned. Future live webinars and other resources are being developed while in-person session offerings will continue.
