According to Habitat For Humanity Of Ellis County Board President Elizabeth Bravo,
Habitat for Humanity of Ellis County, Texas, established in 2001, is a group of local volunteers whose mission is to partner with eligible Ellis County families to build safe, affordable homes, which in turn build a better life for the families served and their children.
Participating in North Texas Giving Day affords Habitat the opportunity to raise much needed funds used to purchase materials and supplies necessary to build Habitat homes. Last year, Habitat for Humanity of Ellis County, Texas raised $5,000 during North Texas Giving Day, which was used to purchase framing materials and supplies needed to frame the Piper family’s home, currently under construction at 500 Perry Street in Waxahachie, Texas.
Upon completion of the Piper family’s home, they will have more than just a safe, affordable home. They will have the knowledge of how to maintain their new home, the financial education to create a stable financial future, the pride of being a homeowner and the heart to give back to the community that came together to help build their home. This is only possible with donations, like those received from North Texas Giving Day.
This year, the goal is to double what was raised last year…$10,000. Ten thousand dollars is a substantial portion of the foundation, framing and siding to a new Habitat home. To the homeowners, this is the beginning of a new life. The foundation gives them a solid footing to feel safe in their home and neighborhood. It is the most important part of building a stable home and a stable life. The framing is the structure of the home, giving the homeowner the educational tools needed to be a successful homeowner and the opportunity to pass this knowledge on to their children. The siding protects the home and the precious items inside the home, just as Habitat builds a strong support system for the homeowners before and after they move into their home to protect the heart of the family…it’s home. The donations received from North Texas Giving Day are truly life changing for Habitat homeowners.
