The late President George H.W. Bush loved to wear eye-catching socks. Needless to say, they weren’t your ho-hum traditional types. How he would have loved the socks that are being turned out thanks to the youngsters at Vogel Alcove. But more about that in a couple of paragraphs.
Backstory: DeadSoxy CEO Jason Simmons got hooked on the mission of Vogel Alcove to “provide therapeutic early childhood services, school-age programs and family supports services for homeless children ages six weeks to 12 years old, and their families.”
Together with the Vogel Alcove team, Jason came up with a “contest in which all the school-age kids would participate in a project to design a sock and write a story about their design.”
The munchkins who came on board submitted 20 designs and stories. After much reviewing, the following three winners were picked:
- Fox And Sprinkles – “I wanted to be creative and make sprinkles rain from the sky, and I like it because the fox’s name is Sprinkles. Real life is cool, but kind of boring. On my sock there’s a world where it rain sprinkles. Sprinkles go on cupcakes and cakes, and sprinkles are a treat. I wanted my sock to be a treat.” – Janessa, age 7
- Musical Notes – “I just really love music! That’s all!!” (laughs hysterically) – Julius, age 12
- Superhero – “This is a kid superhero, who is actually standing on the ground. But, in his mind, he’s flying in the clouds. Superheroes don’t have to have special powers, they just have to help people. Like people who save a cat, or people who are policemen, or just being kind to others.” – AnaLaura, age 12
Jason took the three designs and had them made into socks that can be purchased at DeadSoxy with 50% of all profits from the sock going to Vogel Alcove’s programs and services.
It is such a total win-win undertaking. The kids exercise their creative muscles; DeadSoxy has a whole new look for its clients; and Vogel Alcove’s programs get support.
With spring just around the corner and the need for unique gifts being a constant, these socks just brighten up an ankle and help a homeless kiddo.
BTW, this limited edition is going fast, so scamper on over here to get socked.
