From The Senior Source President/CEO Stacey Paddock Malcolmson,
“Despite our varying missions, non-profits face similar issues. One that is top of mind for many of us is how to engage the next generation of leaders. Given the population The Senior Source serves, making a connection with younger individuals can prove even more challenging.
“Enter BvB Dallas. Entirely volunteer-driven, this amazing group of young professionals taps the enthusiasm and passion of its 200 members to Tackle Alzheimer’s. Steeped in healthy competition, BvB Dallas’ planning and fundraising efforts culminate in a powderpuff football game, held in August at the Cotton Bowl. The game and comradery bring the fun, but for many who play, it’s a fight, and it’s a personal one. They play because a grandparent or a parent suffered from this insidious disease, and involvement in this group offers a meaningful way to make a difference.
“Members have cumulatively raised over $4 million toward Alzheimer’s research awareness and care since the first game was held 11 years ago. As BvB Dallas expanded its impact into direct service delivery, The Senior Source became a proud, grateful partner and one of four beneficiaries of the $675,000 raised in 2018.
“BvB Dallas’ support has significantly and positively impacted The Senior Source’s ability to deliver services to some of our most vulnerable clients by: placing specially trained volunteers in the homes of older adults to offer assistance and companionship; providing expertise, counseling, and resources to family caregivers of loved ones with dementia; providing socialization and compassion to individuals residing in memory care units of nursing homes; and managing the medical, personal, and financial affairs of incapacitated elderly individuals who can no longer make decisions for themselves. We are grateful to be able to support those with dementia and those who care for them.
“The needs of older adults simply aren’t top of mind for a lot of people, let alone those in their 20s and 30s. And yet, older adults are the fastest growing segment of our population. BvB Dallas leads by example in bridging that divide. The Senior Source thanks BvB Dallas for its critical funding, and for inspiring us with their dedication to this most worthy cause.”
