“It’s probably the best decision of my life, signing up for Family Compass, because me being pregnant for the first time, being scared, and not having any kind of help . . . I mean they helped me a lot,” stated Isabell about her decision to reach out for help.
Family Compass is the largest non-profit in the North Texas area solely dedicated to preventing child abuse and neglect. Isabell is one of 2,043 parents and children we assisted last year. She remained with us six years and is a recent graduate of our Growing As Parents (GAP) program, a home mentoring service offered to teen mothers.
Family Compass was established in 1992 by local Exchange Clubs as a result of escalating incidents of child abuse and a lack of services focused on prevention. Since inception, Family Compass has served nearly 47,773 children and parents in North Texas. In addition, all of our programs (Parent Aide, Growing As Parents, and Triple P-Positive Parenting) have received national accreditation, indicating that we implement these programs with the highest levels of fidelity.
Our goal, at Family Compass, is to protect the innocence of children, preserving our future by keeping them safe. We envision a world where all children are safe in their homes and communities, regardless of their socio-economic status. Our families often reside in the poorest communities throughout Dallas and Collin counties. All our programs are evidence-based, voluntary and free of charge.
Isabell learned about Family Compass through a referral from the hospital where she gave birth. At the time, she was an apprehensive, inexperienced teen mom. Through our GAP program Isabell learned life skills, received parenting education, and was directed to different resources in our community. She credits Family Compass and the GAP program for making her a better parent and how to become more self-sufficient.
The North Texas Giving day campaign is one of our resources for ensuring services continue for parents like Isabell. On September 20, 2018 join us in our cause for the prevention of child abuse and neglect; remember our mission to build healthy families and a strong North Texas community. Give to Family Compass on North Texas Giving Day. #ReadySetGive
