Saturday’s turnout for the Dallas Men Against Abuse rally was remarkable, especially since the day started with thunder, rain and a chill in the air. A lot of good people and companies came together to take a stand against an issue that has been increasingly out of control.
However, there were a couple of disappointments in the air, too. For one, an in-the-war-zone abuse expert confided that in the past, s/he had never had calls returned from some of the local leaders on stage until Mayor Mike Rawlings got involved.
The other disappointment was the presence on stage of at least one big name who was guilty of such violence in the past requiring police interaction. It’s too bad that organizers didn’t vet the on-stage gents a little more carefully, or that this chap couldn’t have fessed up, like Dez Bryant, that he had been guilty of such actions and had lived with the regret ever since.
