Let’s review the checklist of summer must do’s. Graduations handled? Check! Wedding gifts ordered? Check! Summer vacation plans made? Check! But what about your dog (pictured)? Doesn’t s/he deserve a little summer activity, too. You know they’re good sports and would be agreeable to any shenanigans.
Here are a couple of solutions to your pooch guilt. Not only will be you have fun, you’ll help other less fortunate critters.
- THURSDAY, MAY 20: “A Wüf Wedding in Lee Park” (6 p.m. to 8 p.m.) — According to the info,
“all of our canine friends are invited to bring their truest loves and tie the knot of howly muttrimoney in Lee Park. Bring your human companions along for all the fun! And if you haven’t yet found that special one, you’re sure to meet your perfect mutt strolling among the many vendor booths featuring goodies just for you! By howling “I do,” you’re helping Paws in the City find homes for our less fortunate dog friends, and making it possible for the Lee Park Canine Conservancy to maintain Lee Park so you can romp and play in the most beautiful urban green space in Dallas!”
General admission is $10 with all proceeds going to Paws in the City and the Lee Park Canine Conservancy. And, no, the blushing couple is not registered at PetsMart or Neimans. At least, we don’t think they are.
- SUNDAY, JUNE 6: “Second Dog Bowl at the Cotton Bowl” (1 p.m. to 5 p.m.) — Okay, just imagine Six Flags Over Texas for the four-legged set. That’s what will happen on a football field with every mutt and purebred that you can imagine. Don’t plan on many cats showing up. They usually snooze that time of day and really don’t have time to be bothered with frolicking on a football field and dogs. According to organizers, you can expect:
“The Dog Bowl will feature live music, an animal-only agility course, exhibits, giveaways, splash pools, caricatures, a canine contest and other pooch pleasers throughout the day. Operation Kindness, Greyhound Adoption League, Humane Society of Dallas County and other rescue groups will be on site with adoptable pets, affordable vaccinations, microchipping and more. Trainers, veterinarians and other animal experts will offer advice and the latest tips and trends in the dog world.“
So, bring your pooch and who knows? Maybe the two of you will find a new member of the family at one of these events.
