The day’s weather had been a true gullywasher. The two questions of the afternoon of Wednesday, April 30, were, “Would the weather clear up?” and “Would anyone slated to attend the Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary Fashion Show patron party show up?”
Patron party hosts Jennifer and David Lancashire knew that their fabulous Old Preston Hollow mansion could easily handle holding the whole party inside. But they were disappointed that their delicious backyard wouldn’t be a marvelous part of the festivities if the rain continued to pour.
As the sun slowly replaced the rain clouds during the afternoon, the weather did indeed clear up. But now it was a wait-and-see whether the guests had dried out enough to celebrate the fashion show that would be taking place on Tuesday, May 6, at the Meyerson.
Early arrivals Women’s Auxiliary President Laura Downing and Fashion Show Chair Stacey Walker took their places in the entry with Jennifer to hopefully welcome the guests.

Just minutes later, the road leading to the Lancashires’ front door was lined with cars as they kept the valets busy. One of the first to arrive was Louise Griffeth, who had survived the torrential rain earlier in the day.
As guests huddled in the Lancashire’s dramatic two-story entry, Stacey and Laura thanked donors and revealed teasers about unusual gently-worn fashions from the closets of some very bold-faced philanthropists and fashionistas.
As soon as Stacey ended her remarks, the massive sliding glass doors overlooking the manicured backyard were opened, and the sunlight drew everyone outdoors for dessert.
Without hesitation, guests immediately made their way through the house and roamed the expansive yard, complete with its own bocce ball court adjacent to an elegant pool and sprawling contemporary cabana.
