It may come as a shock, but May is National Pet Month. There are many who would insist that every month is Pet Month. However, in honor of this official designation and to support the national celebration, Communities Foundation of Texas has created North Texas Gives To Animals, fundraising for all kinds of animals from house pets to the wild and wonderful types.
From Thursday, May 15, to Saturday, May 31, there is an opportunity for all manner of creature lovers to show their love and financial support for 300 participating animal-focused non-profits.

To boost the momentum of the fundraising, CFT fundholder/dedicated animal welfare advocate Gigi Gartner is providing a $100K match with online gifts for “only the first $500 per donor, per organization.” Example: If you give $500 to an organization, it in turn will result in $1,000 for the organization “where the match is available.”
Just this past year, thanks to Gigi, a total of more than $557K was raised by the community to benefit animals and their caregivers.
According to Gigi, “I hope our fundraising campaign will inspire generosity and encourage our community to support the non-profits dedicated to caring for animals. As someone who has adopted pets from local shelters, this cause is especially meaningful to me, and I believe every pet deserves a happy, healthy life. With donations now being matched, we have a great chance to improve animal welfare significantly.”
The aim for the program is to accomplish the following:
- provide shelter and care
- promote adoption
- lead spay and neuter efforts
- provide resources for families with pets and
- protect wildlife.
Using the NorthTexasGivingDay.org platform, CFT has made participation easy. You can get started here.
As CFT President/CEO Wayne White said, “You can support any of over 300 participating animal-focused non-profits, and we’ve added helpful search filters to make it easy for you to support your passions and discover new organizations.”
But remember — the sooner the contribution is made, the better the chances are that the match will hit home.
