According to Dallas Theater Center Board Member and Dallas Theater Center’s Centerstage 41 Gala Chair Hamilton A Sneed,
“When I think about the joys of my childhood, I always go back to the experience and wonder that I felt when seeing a live theater production. My now 98-year-old grandmother would take me to see Broadway musicals during the summer or I’d catch the latest stage production here in Dallas with my parents or while on a fieldtrip with classmates. I have fond memories of waiting backstage for Phylicia Rashad, Ben Vereen and so many other legends to sign my Playbill and to just see them up close.”
“Live theater is such a transformative art form and has the power to open our minds and hearts to the world around us and what’s possible. It’s simply, magical! My wish is that everyone gets to experience great live theater all year long, and at Dallas Theater Center, this happens every day.”
“Since 1959 DTC has produced some of the most innovative works on stage at the Wyly Theatre and the Kalita Humphrey’s Theater. Through the purchase of DTC Gift Tix, (available through December 31) you can give the gift of theater to your friends, family, co-workers, loved ones and share in the joy of storytelling and live art. This ‘gift’ is good for the entire 2024-2025 season from the annual holiday classic ‘A Christmas Carol (on stage until December 28),’ to Shane and the award-winning musical, ‘Waitress to Primary Trust and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,’ there’s a production for everyone this season.”
“And if you want to give the gift of theater to a young person, consider making a donation to the DTC Department of Public Works whose programs include Project Discovery, SummerStage, Artists in the Community and the Community Pageant. Through the Department of Public Works, DTC partners with community-based organizations, schools and government to invite people of all ages to take theater classes, attend performances and events, and join in the creation of ambitious works of participatory theater. And since 1986, programs including Project Discovery have allowed over 265,000 students and teachers to experience the finest in live, professional theater, many whom may not have had the opportunity if it weren’t for these educational program offerings made possible through grants, donations and gifts.
“So, the next time you’re thinking about the perfect gift, think of the joy that you can give to someone else by giving them the transformative experience of seeing a live show at Dallas Theater Center.”
