According to CASA De Lago (CDL) volunteer English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher Sarah Frank,
“As a volunteer ESL teacher for Casa Del Lago, MySweetWish is for continued donations from the community to help us with operating costs. In addition to ESL classes for adults, CDL provides important support to the Bachman Lake Hispanic community through a preschool program, counseling services and financial assistance for material needs.

“In the classes that I teach, I am continually humbled by the determination and positive attitude of my students. Despite the hardships many of them face, my students are joyful and grateful for the support CDL provides for them and their families.

“One especially wonderful thing about the morning program at CDL is that the preschool program and the adult ESL classes are offered at the same time. This enables our parents to attend ESL classes without having to worry about childcare. This was the case for Gloria Gonzalez, who three years ago was able to attend our Level 1 ESL class while her daughter attended preschool program right down the hall! Even though Gloria’s daughter graduated from our preschool last year, Gloria has continued to take our ESL classes and is now a Level 3 student. Each year Gloria has had top exam scores and her attendance is near perfect. And of course, her English-speaking skills have improved dramatically which ultimately enable her to be more self-sufficient in taking care of herself and her daughter.
