This weekend is full of activities starting with Yom Kippur that commences at sunset (aka 6:58 p.m.) today. For the next 25 hours, those of the Jewish faith will celebrate the holiest day by fasting, praying and seeking atonement for their sins.
On Saturday, Fair Park will be filled with Longhorn and Sooner fans heading to the Cotton Bowl for the Red River kick-off at 2:30 p.m., later than the usual 11 a.m. start.
Monday is a federal holiday. Some call it Columbus Day; others call it Indigenous People Day. Either way, it still translates that there will be no postal service and brick and mortar banks and federal government offices will be closed for business.
Actually the holiday by either name is rather confusing. For instance, Dallas County offices will be open, but some City of Dallas offices will be open (Dallas Animal Services) while others will be closed (Dallas Public Libraries, municipal courts, cultural centers, sanitation department, etc.).
Another up-in-the-air situation is local schools. Some are open; some aren’t.
Suggestion: If in doubt about the status of a facility, consider calling before venturing out.
Above all, take it easy. Looking at the MySweetCharity Calendar, it appears next week is rocking with activities.
