In these trying times, the 2024 Cattle Baron’s Ball brought together more than 3,000 to conquer cancer on Saturday, September 28, at Southfork.
While the rally to support North Texas research and treatments for those battling the deadly disease has taken place since 1974, this year’s glitz and glamour co-chaired by Lora Farris and Marjon Henderson proved to sparkle like a super nova with people and stories adding an uber-oomph to the fundraising and heart-warming ambiance.
Even though the mechanical bull wasn’t bullish to show up and a replacement Ferris Wheel was hauled in when the original one cratered, the crowd watching and paddle-raising was a memory maker — and a possible record breaker. And, who could resist having a photo taken with beer-toting mini-burros Jerry Lee Lewis and Johnny Cash?
And, oh, the back stories of how so many had tackled cancer over the decades. The one that highlighted the live auction was told by Baroness vet Claire Phillips on stage with her daughter Caroline Phillips. It not only brought the crowd to their feet in applause, but also resulted in the call-for-auction kicking off with a $500K donation.
