An article in a local daily paper reported Monday that Klyde Warren Park’s standout areas —the Nancy Best Fountain and the Ginsburg Family Great Lawn — were in various stages of repair and rehabbing.
According to the story, Klyde Warren Park President/CEO Kit Sawers explained the reason for the Fountain not working: “Due to its complex design, this maintenance can take some time to complete. We look forward to reopening the fountain soon for everyone to enjoy in a matter of weeks.”
As for the Lawn, the article said it was being restored and would be opened to the public again just in time for Texas-OU weekend on Friday, October 11.

What wasn’t addressed in the article was Klyde Warren Park’s big fundraiser called “Party In The Park” on the night of Thursday, October 10. The event is being co-chaired by the Marianne and Roger Staubach kids (Jennifer and John Gates, Michelle and John Grimes, Amy and Jamie Mentgen, Stephanie and Todd Phillips and Jenny and Jeff Staubach) and features the Nancy Best Fountain Cocktail Reception and a seated dinner in the Ginsburg Family Great Lawn.
When in doubt, ask the person-in-the-know — Kit!
She calmed any fears about the reported closures, saying that, “The fountain will undergo some testing during the repair period. We will run it Thursday night for the Party in the Park, which will allow us to test it as well. We will do that a few more times over the next several weeks, including this Friday and Saturday night, when the Fountain turns pink for breast cancer awareness month.”
As for the viability of the Great Lawn, she explained, “the Ginsburg Family Great Lawn is closed for restoration until the morning of October 9, and then we set up for the event that is October 10. The lawn reopens on October 11.”
So, if you wondered whether the party was still on for Thursday night, the answer is a definite “Yes!” Even Mother Nature is scheduled to cooperate with beautiful weather.
