While Children’s Health and UT Southwestern Medical Center were breaking ground and news at Harry Hines Boulevard and Paul M. Bass Way for the new Dallas pediatric campus on Tuesday, October 1, just up the boulevard the ladies like Cheryl Joyner, Katie Layton Oster, Kristi Francis, Rusty Duvall, Janet Evans, Linda Secrest and Christie Carter who fundraise were at Brook Hollow Golf Club for the Women’s Auxiliary of Equest Fashion Show And Luncheon.
The weather for both occasions couldn’t have been better. Equest Ambassadors Dare and Ranger were nicely settled on the driveway and their bigger types with riders like Ryan Wolf looked right at home on the lawn in front of the clubhouse.
Inside the last-minute replacements were being made. Luncheon Chair Katherine Wyker and Underwriting Chair Catherine Jaynes were going over the day’s plans. Producer Jan Strimple was continuing her victory tour into her fashionable retirement. Reservations Co-Chairs Shannon Graham and Kimber Hartmann were making last-minute changes in the seating arrangements that filled the ballroom. Egad! One guest who had a place on the runway’s front row had called in to cancel.
And those last-minute changes weren’t limited to seating. Earlier in the morning, Maggie McClean, who had been scheduled to provide a testimonial with her daughter Olivia McClean, had regretted, saying that the family had been hit by COVID. Luckily, Equest Registrar and Communications Manager Angela Escamilla was able to share their story in the program.
The program got underway with Equest Women’s Auxiliary President Lisa Loy Laughlin welcoming guests and introducing Katherine, who recognized Honorary Chair Carol Huckin and was followed by Equest CEO Eric Lindh, who introduced a video on the Equest program and Angela.
Following Eric’s presentation, Auxiliary Founder Louise Griffeth presented the Community Service Award to Kristina Whitcomb.
Then it was time for the fashion show including Highland Park Village merchants Akris, Carolina Herrera, La Vie Style House, Lela Rose, Lele Sadoughi, LoveShackFancy, Simkhai and Miron Crosby.
In addition to the munchkins literally stealing the show in the LoveShackFancy segment, a ripple of giggles erupted in one area when a collection was shown and a guest commented, “Mrs. Roper.”
