Despite not knowing the speaker for the Celebrating Women’s 25th Anniversary Silver Jubilee Luncheon, both former chairs (Laura Downing, Margo Goodwin and Carol Seay) and volunteers like (Carol Dalton, Angie Kadesky, Pat McCall, Pam McCallum and Connie Yates), gathered around Felicia Powell‘s dinner table on Thursday, August 1. With pen in hand, the gals addressed envelopes for the invitations for folks to come on board.

Margo was the keeper of the addressing protocol as others asked, “Do we spell out ‘avenue,’ ‘boulevard,’ etc.?” The answer was, “Yes.”

As more people arrived, the conversation turned to catching up. Carol Seay had had a busy week. Just the day before she had been at the Salvation Army Women’s back-to-school event preparing backpacks, along with SAWA President Laura Downing. Another topic was the recent lightning strike that had hit Katherine and Bob Penn‘s house, as retold by neighbors Margo and Carol Dalton.

But the leaders who were old hands at showing up for the Baylor Scott and White Dallas Foundation fundraiser reminisced about past lunches that had taken place over the 25 years.

Reader’s Digest review of a couple of past highlights:

  • R-rated event – The speaker who had sipped a bit too much bubbly beforehand and had opened and closed with R-rated jokes, so much so that the luncheon chair’s blush took days to calm down.
  • Unknown “oops” – When the keynote speaker arrive at the hotel late the night before, she received the key to her room and, upon opening the door, discovered a naked man in bed who was a legendary TV star. The embarrassed keynoter headed to the front desk to get another room.

Later in the morning it was revealed the speaker for the Silver Jubilee would be actress/breast cancer survivor Olivia Munn.
