2024 Cattle Baron’s Ball Co-Chairs Lora Farris and Marjon Henderson and their 98 baronesses have been at Southfork fixing up the place for Saturday night’s “New Horizons” mega-fundraiser. It will feature Straight Tequila Night on the Pike Electric Live Auction Stage and Carrie Underwood on the Andrews Distributing Main Stage presented by Miller Lite.
And, of course, there will be loads of beverages and food like a Texas Buffet, with everything from smoked bistro filet to butternut squash, kale and mushroom enchiladas.
Much to the delight of many guests will be the return of the Ferris Wheel thanks to GeoSouthern and that ever-loving Mechanical Bull courtesy of Uline.
But before you get dazzled thinking about the Neiman Marcus Glam Room, Choctaw Casino casino and all the shopping in the silent and live auctions, you might want to check a few helpful tips before heading to the former home of the Ewings:
- The drive to and from Southfork is closely monitored. Speeding and tipsy driving are real downers when the local police have to pull one over.
- There is no VIP Parking. Everyone will enter through Gate 1.
- If you’re coming via Central Expressway, there are two favorite roads leading to Southfork. One is to take Parker Road until you see the mega tent and turn right on North Murphy Road (aka Hogge Drive). The other way is East Park Boulevard that transitions into Betsy Lane. You’ll turn left on North Murphy Road and turn right into Gate 1.
- On the other hand, if you don’t want to be bothered with driving hassles, consider ride-sharing a la Alto, Lyft and Uber. And if you’ve got a passel of folks in your party, how about Premier Transportation and Wynne Transportation?
- Before deciding how to get to Southfork, though, make sure you have the 2024 CBB wristband. No wristband, no entry. You definitely don’t want to get all the way out there only to be shown the gate exit.
- Once inside there’ll be plenty of things to see and do, so save your tootsies and leave the stilettos at home.
- With the gates opening at 5:30 p.m., the weather will be this side of spectacular — high and dry in the upper 80s. Throughout the night, the temperatures will gradually drop to the low 70s.
And just remember that all the fun is to fundraise for “new horizons” in cancer research and treatment in North Texas.
