According to Habitat Greater Garland’s President/CEO Rich Buquet,
“It is hard to overstate the benefits that come from having a safe, decent, affordable place to call home. For the past 30 years Habitat Greater Garland has been changing people’s lives by providing strength and stability through home ownership. Owning a home allows families to save more, invest in education, live in healthier environments, have better social outcomes, and experience more financial stability. Homeownership is one of the main foundations for success and a better future.
“Habitat Greater Garland has built 91 homes and served more than 130 additional homes with major Critical Repairs. These accomplishments are no small feat considering the size and location of the affiliate. Many people think of Habitat for Humanity as one big company or non-profit. Actually, each Habitat affiliate is independent and defined by geography. Habitat Greater Garland has had to compete with much larger affiliates, like Dallas Area HFH and Collin County HFH, for resources, partnerships, and donations. Your support this year helps us continue our work of, “Changing the Image of Affordable Housing”™ in the northeast Dallas areas of Garland, Rowlett, and Sachse.
“The support of Communities Foundation of Texas’ North Texas Giving Day has assisted Habitat Greater Garland over the past several years, and this year hopefully there will be even more differentiation between the other worthy HFH affiliates and Habitat Greater Garland. Our goal is to raise $50,000!
“The impact of North Texas Giving Day and our donors is something amazing to see as it truly transforms lives through our Building and Critical Home Repair programs! Over the past six years we have served a diverse mix of first time homeowners including three Veteran families, two Black American families, four immigrant families from the countries of Africa, a Latino American family from Guatemala, and an immigrant family from Vietnam. Our critical repair program has also dramatically changed the lives of over 130 families, with more than 85 of those households being Veterans of the USA military.
“This year we hope North Texas Giving Day will help bring to the forefront the great plans Habitat Greater Garland has for our Veterans. We are breaking ground on a Veterans Pocket Community of 15 single family homes and a Community Center in Garland, where veterans will have the opportunity to purchase a new home for an affordable mortgage and live in a neighborhood populated by their fellow veterans. The Community Center will provide many additional veteran centric services.
“Habitat Greater Garland is also partnering with Texas Homes CDFI, a Loan Fund designed to originate mortgages for low and mid income homebuyers at ‘better than market’ interest rates. This year donations through NTXGD will strengthen HFH Greater Garland’s ability to develop these new build sites for Veterans and also increase our capacity to subsidize the mortgages making them affordable.
“Thank you in advance for partnering with Habitat Greater Garland by giving specifically to our affiliate on North Texas Giving Day. Your gifts are truly transforming lives by building homes, communities and hope!”
