According to New Life Cat Rescue’s Foster Coordinator and Medical Director Christy Gann,
“Artie was a beautiful orange cat who loved to roam the streets of his neighborhood, chasing birds and basking in the sun. One fateful day, as he was crossing the road, a speeding car came out of nowhere and struck him, leaving him paralyzed from the waist down.
“Fortunately, a kind-hearted passerby saw the accident and immediately contacted a local animal rescue organization. They found Artie on the street, dragging his back legs as he was unable to use them. New Life Cat Rescue rushed Artie to the vet, where the extent of his injuries was assessed. The vet informed the rescue that Artie would require extensive and expensive treatments in order to regain his mobility. Artie’s bladder was also enormous and packed full of crystals. He had to have a procedure to clear out his bladder, before the vet could begin to work on his mobility.
“Determined to help Artie, New Life Cat Rescue reached out to North Texas Giving Day for assistance. Thanks to their generous funding, Artie was able to receive acupuncture, red light therapy and water therapy to help him regain strength and mobility in his hind legs.
“Day by day, Artie showed signs of improvement. Artie is such a sweet and loving cat throughout all of his procedures. With each session of therapy, he gained more control over his legs and was eventually able to take his first wobbly steps. As time went on, Artie’s progress continued to astound everyone involved in his care. Before long, he was able to walk in a swimming pool unassisted and is taking wobbly steps on his own instead of dragging his back legs.
“Artie’s miraculous recovery was a testament to the power of love, determination, and the support of kind-hearted individuals and organizations like North Texas Giving Day. He may have started out as a paralyzed cat, but with their help, he is learning to overcome his injuries and live a happy, healthy life once again. Artie knew that he was truly one lucky cat.”
