According to Turtle Creek Park Conservancy Board Member Wendy Messmann,
“Thanks to our very generous donors and our public/private partnership with the City of Dallas, the Turtle Creek Conservancy has been able to make great strides to refurbish the serene timeless beauty of Turtle Creek Park and Arlington Hall. In past two years, we have:
- “Planted over 90 new trees and restored numerous landscaped beds and areas
- “Installed new park benches, picnic tables, and vintage light posts
- “Replaced and repaired the Hibiscus Fountain
- “Installed new irrigation and two new drinking fountains with pet bowls
- “Upgraded the camera security system for Arlington Hall
- “Repainted the interior of Arlington Hall, installing new draperies, carpet, and wallpaper
“We are also making our mark by hosting, free, fun and relevant Dallas community events this fall:
- “Movie in Turtle Creek Park – Friday, October 18
- “DSO Truck in Turtle Creek Park – Fall date to be announced
- “Light Up Turtle Creek Park – Wednesday, December 4
- “Park Clean-Up and Planting Days – Fall dates to be announced
“For our members, we offer events including:
- “The Write Stuff” featuring authors, bloggers and influencers
- “David Marquis, author of ‘The River Always Wins’ – Wednesday, September 18
- “Rena Pederson, author of ‘The King of Diamonds’ – Monday, October 14
- “Monthly Commerce on the Corridor event – Third Wednesday at 9 a.m.
“And Fall Patron’s Circle Member events:
- “Champagne Reception (for Environmentalists and above) being held at the Perot/Hillwood offices – Wednesday, October 9
- “Luminary Circle Dinner (for Master Gardeners and above) – Tuesday, November 5
- “Holiday in the Hall (for Arborists and above) – Sunday, December 15
“In addition, we launched Discovery Days, a new partnership with Boys and Girls Clubs of Dallas which provided a free educational and recreational park experience for hundreds of children this summer. We anticipate this partnership will expand greatly in the next few years and become a model for no- for-profit collaborations.
