It has just been revealed that Texas Women’s Foundation (TXWF) longtime supporter and Board Alumna Effie Dennison will serve as TXWF’s 39th Annual Luncheon chair. In her newest role, she has announced the keynote speaker for this year’s fundraiser.
Following ABC News’ Deborah Roberts‘ keynoting the TXWF Leadership Forum in April, this year’s TXWF’s 39th Annual Luncheon speaker will be Emmy Award-winning journalist Ann Curry, who was at NBC News from 1999-2015. Talk about two degrees of separation! Deborah’s husband is NBC weather icon Al Roker.
On Friday, November 1, Ann will be interviewed on stage at the Omni Dallas Hotel by “Think” host/managing editor Krys Boyd.
Oh, what stories she can tell. Having traveled the world time and time again, she’s interviewed world leaders including U.S. Presidents and their wives, Sir Edmund Hillary, George Clooney, Maya Angelou and Archbishop Desmond Tutu, to name just a handful. In addition to her roles on TV screens, she has written for National Geographic Magazine about the incarceration of Japanese Americans during World War II and the Dalai Lama, as well as teaching journalism ethics and war and humanitarian reporting as a fellow at American University.
TXWF’s signature event taking place in the fall will help “create a truly equitable society in which Texas women and girls can fully participate.”
According to TXWF Board Chair Carrie Freeman Parsons, “We are looking forward to hearing Ann Curry’s powerful and personal stories at our 39th Annual Luncheon. Her focus on giving voice to the voiceless, and especially women, throughout her career has inspired us for decades.”
This year’s theme — “Catalysts for Change” — “recognizes the role donors play in the Foundation’s ability to achieve its mission of building #StrongWomenBetterWorld through research, advocacy, grant making and programs.”
