According to Catch Up and Read (CAR) Development Director David Schaefers,
“As the new school year approaches, the need for putting quality educational resources, especially books, in the hands of elementary students becomes ever more critical. At Catch Up and Read, we are dedicated to elevating instruction, empowering teachers, and equipping students with the tools they need to succeed. One of our most impactful initiatives is our Catch Up and Read Incentive Store, affectionately known as the ‘CAR Store’ to our students, which delivers new books and prizes to children in our reading acceleration program every six weeks.
“We are calling on book lovers everywhere to support our book drive by donating new books for elementary readers. You can contribute by purchasing books from our Amazon Wish List.
“We will be accepting book donations through December. Your generous contributions during this period will ensure that we can continue to provide new books to our students throughout the school year.
“Literacy is the foundation of all learning, and early reading skills are crucial for long-term academic success. Unfortunately, many children in Dallas lack access to the books they need to develop these skills. Studies have shown that a significant number of children from low-income families have few, if any, books at home. By providing these essential resources, we can make a lasting impact on their educational journey.
“Catch Up and Read addresses this gap by working with 20 schools across Dallas, providing essential support to students in 1st through 3rd grades. Last year alone, we directly served over 800 students through tutoring provided by certified teachers, helping students improve their reading abilities and build a brighter future. The books are the most important part of the CAR Store, as they foster a love of reading and learning that can transform a child’s life.
“By supporting Catch Up and Read’s book drive, you are not just donating books; you are investing in the future of our children and our community. Together, we can make a significant impact and help our young readers thrive. Thank you for your support!”
